Winchester District Church’s Helping the Hungry
Reliance UMC - collects non-perishable food continuously and once a month (or more if a special need is made aware to us) we alternate providing the food baskets to the Stephens City Food Pantry; C-Cap of Winchester and Warren County; and, any needy family that we're made aware of ... POC: Fred Rathel
Strasburg UMC - we do a couple of things. First, we collect food and personal items from the congregation and the Sr. High Sunday school class inventories the items and delivers them to the Compassion Cupboard (which is a community food pantry). The other thing we do is a Community Dinner on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. This is a program that was started by SUMC and then expanded by our next door neighbors St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They do the dinner on the first, third and the fifth Wednesday if there is one in the month. This dinner is open to the community and is run off of free will offerings. POC: Dave Smallwood
Woodstock United Methodist Church - has a food pantry (Bread of Life Food Pantry) and it is open on the third Tuesday and third Thursday of each month. We generally serve around 50 families each of those days but last month on the third Tuesday we served around 80. Although the food pantry is on our church property and the director is our Elsie Rogers we get support from the Presbyterian Church of Woodstock as well. We have volunteers from several churches and receive contributions from other organizations and individuals. POC: Bill Decker
Front Royal UMC - collects non perishable food items the third Sunday of each month and gives to C-CAP Warren County to distribute to those in need. On the first Sunday we collect paper products as donations to C-CAP. The third Thursday of each month we provide a warm meal prepared at our church kitchen and served as My Brother's Table at the local Presbyterian Church fellowship hall to anyone in need, and part of that is delivery of as many as 30 meals to some needy that are unable to come into the church. Our Wednesday morning breakfast group often has leftovers delivered to a homebound gentleman or two each week. The UMM dinner on the second Monday often deliver leftovers to the men's shelter the House of Hope in Front Royal. The need is great and the opportunities are there we just need to open our eyes and ears to what God is calling us to do. Feed my sheep. POC: Jim Brown
Burnt Factory UMC - The food pantry is stocked and we provide food to individuals or families as needed. Our congregation is very generous providing donations to keep the food pantry well stocked. We don't have regular hours. People notify either Rev. Steve Melester or myself and we take care of packing the boxes and delivering ASAP. We help all families that we are know have a need. When we are overstocked food is taken to CCAP. POC: Karen Willis
Riverton UMC - Food Pantry, 55 East Strasburg Road, Front Royal, VA. Our pantry is open on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We provide both USDA and donated church food to those in need. We sometimes receive fresh produce from Society of St. Andrew Gleaning and/or from WalMart (through C-CAP). Dynamic Life has also been providing us with bread products which I think they receive from Food Lion and/or Target. In the past, we have tried to have two food drives at the Front Royal WalMart. We do this in conjunction with Compassion House Distribution Center (The Rock Worship Center). POC: Sharon McKenzie 540-631-0360(home) or 540-631-4334(mobile).
